They encountered the fire around 3:45 pm while on their way to get pizza and initially attempted to use extinguishers from nearby shops, but faced difficulties. After a small explosion, they witnessed the fire escalate and continued to observe as fire crews battled the blaze, noting it initially appeared extinguished before re-igniting. The fire later spread to neighboring Victorian buildings, causing the closure of Glasgow Central Station all day, with no trains running to or from its high-level platforms. Network Rail confirmed no damage to the station itself.
