Lamin Kongira, a 42-year-old chef, attempted to put out a fire at a vape shop near Glasgow Central Station on Sunday afternoon after witnessing smoke and someone fleeing the premises. Finding no fire extinguisher inside, he retrieved one from a nearby Subway restaurant, but the blaze was too intense. He retreated after hearing loud bangs and an explosion, possibly from a vape device. Kongira also helped usher people away from the scene. The fire subsequently spread, causing a partial collapse of the building. He suffered from smoke inhalation and headaches but stated his actions were motivated by his frequent use of Central Station and its importance to his life in Glasgow.
