Chef declared hero for rushing in to exploding vape shop to try and stop Glasgow fire
Summary
Lamin Kongira, a 42-year-old chef, is being hailed as a hero after running into a burning vape shop on Union Street in Glasgow on Sunday. He observed smoke and a man fleeing the building and, upon learning there was no fire extinguisher, attempted to use one from a nearby Subway. After the extinguisher failed and explosions began, he urged others to evacuate. Kongira believes the fire originated from an adapter system overloaded with chargers. He experienced smoke inhalation and headaches but is otherwise unharmed. The fire spread, causing significant damage to the 19th-century building and leading to the closure of Glasgow Central train station. A GoFundMe campaign has raised £80,000 to support affected businesses. No injuries were reported, and the station remains closed for inspections.
