Heroic Glasgow man ran into Union Street vape shop fire to try and stop it
Summary
Lamin Kongira and James Welch are being hailed as heroes after both men attempted to extinguish a fire at a vape shop on Union Street in Glasgow on March 8th. Kongira ran into the shop and tried to use a fire extinguisher from a nearby Subway, but the fire quickly escalated. Welch, armed with a fire extinguisher, also charged into the blaze, believing people were trapped inside (later discovering they were mannequins). Both men were forced to retreat before explosions occurred. Welch narrowly escaped a major explosion and expressed regret that he couldn't save the historic building. Fire crews continue to work at the scene, with a multi-agency investigation underway to determine the cause of the fire, which started on the ground floor and spread throughout the building. The incident involved over 200 firefighters and significant resources, and Glasgow Central Station remains closed due to the proximity of the fire.
