BNN Says Vape Prohibition Rules Still in Process
Summary
The Head of the National Narcotics Agency (BNN), Suyudi Ario Seto, announced that the proposed prohibition of electronic cigarettes (vapes) is still being processed. BNN has proposed regulating vape and its liquids within the Draft Law on Narcotics and Psychotropic Substances, following the lead of several ASEAN countries like Vietnam, Thailand, and Singapore. BNN laboratory tests on 341 vape liquid samples revealed concerning findings, including the presence of synthetic cannabinoids in 11 samples, methamphetamine in one, and etomidate in 23. Currently, 1,386 new psychoactive substances (NPS) are circulating globally, with 175 identified in Indonesia. Suyudi emphasized that prohibiting vaping devices would significantly curb the circulation of vape liquids containing prohibited chemical compounds, drawing a parallel to drug use requiring paraphernalia.
