Africa: Strongest Evidence Yet That Vaping Likely Causes Cancer
Summary
A comprehensive review of existing research indicates that vaping likely causes oral and lung cancers. While long-term studies are still lacking, the review focused on identifying effects on the body known to be linked to cancer development. Researchers analyzed peer-reviewed studies from 2017 to mid-2025, finding that the aerosol inhaled from vapes contains chemicals – including nicotine byproducts and vaporized metals – that exhibit almost all ten characteristics of carcinogens identified by the World Health Organization. Blood and urine analyses of vapers confirmed absorption of these harmful chemicals, strengthening the evidence for a causal link between vaping and cancer.
