Indian spinner Yuzvendra Chahal faces calls for strict action after a video shows him vaping on a flight.

Summary

Indian spinner Yuzvendra Chahal is currently embroiled in controversy following the emergence of a video that has gone viral on social media. In this footage, he appears to be vaping on a flight, prompting calls from cricket legends and fans alike for the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to take strict action, including potential jail time for Chahal. Chahal is part of the Punjab Kings in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL). Allegations have surfaced that he used a vape or e-cigarette while on a flight to Hyderabad. The video was shared by Punjab bowler Arshdeep Singh on his YouTube channel, and its viral nature has intensified demands for action against Chahal. This incident marks the second case of a player vaping during IPL 2026. Previously, captain Riyan Parag was also caught on camera vaping in the dressing room during a match. As a result, he faced a penalty of 25% of his match fee and received a demerit point. Chahal's recent video has reignited discussions on the issue, with former Indian spinner Laxman Sivaramakrishnan calling for Chahal to be jailed for his actions. Sivaramakrishnan expressed his views on the matter, stating that the 25% fine imposed on Parag was insufficient given the seriousness of the incident. He emphasized that Chahal should face jail time, arguing that if laws are not enforced, they serve no purpose. He questioned the leniency of the penalty, suggesting that a regular individual would face harsher consequences for similar behavior. In response to the controversy, BCCI Secretary Devjeet Saikia has released an advisory. The advisory states that incidents of vaping in restricted areas, such as dressing rooms and tournament venues, have been reported to the BCCI. Under Indian law, vaping and electronic cigarettes are prohibited. Anyone found engaging in such activities within the tournament premises is violating BCCI and IPL regulations, which could lead to severe repercussions.
