Pediatricians press FDA to revisit fruit-flavored vaping products
Summary
The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has approved fruit-flavored vaping products for sale to adults only. However, the American Academy of Pediatrics is urging the FDA to reconsider this decision. Dr. Scott Hadland, chief of adolescent medicine at Mass. General Brigham for Children, explained that the primary concern is the flavoring, which often entices teenagers. While the FDA believes new restrictions will keep young people from accessing these products, pediatricians worry that the benefits for adult smokers may be outweighed by the increase in teen vaping. Dr. Hadland noted that while vaping has been on the decline in recent years, the approval of these products could reverse that trend and expose young people to nicotine addiction.
