New Hartlepool micropub plans ban TVs, vaping and gambling machines
Summary
Plans have been submitted to Hartlepool Borough Council for a new micropub at 23 Scarborough Street, submitted by Philip Thompson. The venue, named "Dr Phil's Real Ale House", aims to provide "quality real ales" and promote conversation and community cohesion in a civilised atmosphere. The application specifies opening hours from 4.30pm to 10.30pm on Tuesday to Thursday, noon to 10.30pm on Friday and Saturday, and noon to 3pm on Sundays, with the premises closed on Mondays. The proposal explicitly bans gambling machines, TVs, vaping, smoking, and other drugs. Children would be allowed entry at the bar manager's discretion but not after 6pm. The interior will feature a single public space accommodating up to 30 customers, a compact bar counter, unisex toilet, temperature-controlled cellar room, and kitchen area, along with a small outdoor seating area. The application includes measures such as CCTV and a Challenge 25 policy to ensure a safe environment, with no promotional gimmicks.
