Fairlawn set to enact regulations for smoke, vape shops
Summary
Fairlawn City Council voted to extend its moratorium on new smoke and vape shops for another 90 days, following a previous 180-day ban that was extended in March. The city is developing zoning regulations that would permit these shops only in B-2 business districts and prohibit them within 1,000 feet of schools, parks, libraries, and other sensitive areas. The proposed rules also require a 1-mile separation between similar businesses and a 50-foot buffer from residential zones, while banning on-site consumption and window displays. Additionally, the council approved the purchase of emergency medical equipment, including a LIFEPAK 15 cardiac monitor and four LUCAS mechanical CPR devices, using funds from the OneOhio Opioid settlement to enhance first-response capabilities. The council also approved rezoning 10 acres of land for office use and discussed various other municipal matters.
