Ireland airport vape rules explained as holidaymakers face potential fines over common mistakes

Irish Mirror
Travelers should follow specific Irish airport and airline regulations for vapes to avoid fines and security issues.

Summary

As summer travel increases, many passengers are uncertain about vaping regulations at airports and on aircraft. To avoid fines and security complications, travelers must store all vapes and spare batteries in hand luggage, as they are classified as Portable Electronic Devices (PEDs). E-liquids must be in containers under 100ml and kept in a transparent plastic bag.

Specific rules apply to different Irish airports: Dublin Airport allows vaping in designated areas like the Terminal 1 Garden Terrace Bar, while other airports like Cork, Donegal, Shannon, and Kerry have stricter limitations, often restricting vaping to designated outdoor areas only.

Crucially, vaping on an aircraft is strictly forbidden and treated the same as smoking. Airlines use detectors that can identify e-cigarette vapor, and attempting to vape or charge a device mid-flight can lead to substantial fines or legal consequences. Travelers are advised to check the specific regulations of their destination country before flying.
