While nicotine remains addictive, the primary drivers of smoking-related diseases are the products of combustion, which vaping avoids by heating liquid instead of burning tobacco. Studies show improvements in biomarkers like inflammation, oxidative stress, and blood vessel function when smokers switch completely.

The article critiques a Manchester Metropolitan University study that claimed young vapers are "as unfit as smokers." It notes that while vaping may have physiological effects on never-smokers, the study's cross-sectional design cannot establish causality, and fitness test results do not equate to lifetime risks of cancer or COPD.
