A 33-year-old Singaporean man, Melvin Wong Mun Hao, was sentenced to 24 weeks' jail on Jul. 27 after pleading guilty to attempting to possess vapes and making a false statement in a passport application. His offences were discovered when Singapore Customs officers found approximately 5,000 vaporisers inside a trailer at a Sungei Kadut factory on Feb. 28, 2025. Investigations revealed that Wong was collecting and delivering the vapes for an illegal moneylending syndicate to help pay off his S$50,000 debt. After his passport was impounded, Wong lied about having lost it in an online application to ICA on Mar. 7, 2025, so he could travel to Malaysia for a wedding photo shoot. The Immigration and Checkpoints Authority (ICA) stated that it takes a serious view of false information in passport applications, warning that offenders face a fine not exceeding S$10,000 or imprisonment for up to 10 years.
