Post Office Manager Charged Over Alleged Vape, Tobacco Imports
Summary
Detectives from the Multi Agency Strike Team (MAST) have charged three men, including a licensed post office manager, after investigations into trusted insiders allegedly importing large quantities of illicit tobacco and vaping products into Australia. Strike Force Kerani was established in June 2026 to investigate a 62-year-old man suspected of exploiting his senior position at a post office north of Sydney, with support from information supplied by Australia Post.
On 13 October 2026, investigators executed search warrants at Berowra Heights, Zetland and Banksmeadow, plus a vehicle stop, seizing $60,470 in cash, more than 3.3 million illicit tobacco sticks, 14,040 vapes, 9,049 tobacco tin pouches, 648 sachets of rolling tobacco and electronic devices. The 62-year-old was arrested and charged with commercial-quantity vaping and tobacco offences, and two 36-year-old men were charged in Banksmeadow.
NSW Police, AFP and ABF commanders said targeting trusted insiders who enable organised crime networks is a key priority, adding that illicit tobacco and vape profits fund other serious criminal activity. Police urged anyone with information to contact Crime Stoppers.
