Essex County Council launches kits to tackle youth vaping
Summary
Essex County Council has launched two new toolkits aimed at combating the increasing prevalence of youth vaping in the region. Developed in collaboration with education settings and families, the resources provide practical advice, factual information, and conversation starters to facilitate informed discussions about the health risks associated with vaping. One toolkit is designed for schools and professionals, created by Essex Public Health and the Essex Safeguarding Children Board, while the other is tailored for parents and carers, developed by HCRG’s Essex Child and Family Wellbeing Service. Both emphasize the dangers of nicotine addiction and offer support services for young people seeking to quit. The initiative comes after data from Action on Smoking and Health (ASH) revealed that 20% of UK youth aged 11-17 have experimented with vaping, with 7% currently vaping and 40% of those vaping daily. Essex Trading Standards is also actively working to prevent underage vape sales and will prosecute businesses that violate age-restriction laws.
