Vape sales plunge amid government clampdown on single-use devices
Summary
Vape sales in Britain have fallen sharply following a government crackdown on disposable devices. Spending on vapes decreased by nearly £225 million, representing a 13% drop year-over-year, according to data from NIQ and The Grocer magazine. Major brands like ElfBar, Lost Mary, and SKE Crystal Bar experienced significant sales declines, with ElfBar suffering the largest loss at £139.3 million. The ban, implemented in June 2024, aimed to address rising youth vaping rates, but industry experts suggest it's driving consumers towards the black market. Despite the ban, a survey found that a significant percentage of vapers, particularly those aged 25-34, continue to use single-use vapes. Overall, sales of vapes, tobacco, and cigarettes combined have declined by over £1 billion, while sales of healthier alternatives like fruit, chocolate, and meat have increased.
