Vape shop blocked from selling alcohol - despite pledge to ban former boss
Summary
All In One Bazaar in Canterbury was denied an alcohol license despite the owner, Inder Singh, pledging to ban former director Kabir Singh from the premises. The licensing sub-committee of Canterbury City Council raised concerns about Kabir Singh’s ongoing financial ties to the property – he remains the head leaseholder and receives £60,000 annually in rent – and questioned the legitimacy of his resignation. Police and Trading Standards presented evidence of Kabir Singh’s past “criminal behaviour” and attempts to obstruct official visits, as well as the shop’s history of selling illegal products. Despite assurances from Inder and Avneet Singh that they had severed ties with Kabir, the committee was not convinced that the licensing objectives would be upheld, leading to the application’s rejection.
