Man fined for posting social media videos of himself vaping in Singapore's first such prosecution
Summary
Krish Khalifa, 25, was fined S$12,000 by the Health Sciences Authority (HSA) for posting videos and photos of himself vaping on YouTube, Instagram, and TikTok between November 2023 and September 2024. This is the first time someone has been prosecuted in Singapore for promoting vaping through social media content. He was also fined an additional S$2,000 for possessing three e-vaporisers. The HSA has been actively monitoring social media and fined 38 individuals between January and November 30 for similar offenses. Authorities emphasize a zero-tolerance approach to vaping promotion, as it can normalize the use of these banned products, particularly among young people. Under the Tobacco Act, advertising e-vaporisers carries a fine of up to S$10,000, a jail term of up to six months, or both, with increased penalties for repeat offenders. Enhanced anti-vaping laws implemented in September 2025 include higher penalties and mandatory rehabilitation for repeat users.
