Henrico broadens vape shop regulations to apply to other retail stores
Summary
The Henrico Board of Supervisors unanimously approved new regulations extending restrictions on vape shops to other retail stores selling vapes, tobacco, cannabis, kratom, or nicotine products. New stores primarily selling these substances will require a provisional use permit and can’t operate near schools or religious institutions. The threshold for circumventing these rules has also been lowered. This action follows previous regulations and a task force investigation revealing a rise in vape shops (from 74 to 85) and 30 shops charged with selling to minors, along with over 300 code violations. Concerns center on underage sales and the presence of illegal THC levels and synthetic compounds in products. County officials are committed to protecting youth and will continue to enforce the new ordinance.
