Portugal vaping reduction

The Portugal News
Portugal ranks second globally for its success in reducing vaping, attributed to low prevalence and high taxes on vaping products.

Summary

A new study by Compare the Market has identified Portugal as a global leader in vaping reduction, ranking it second alongside India and Vietnam with a score of 7.08. This success is largely due to Portugal’s remarkably low adult vaping prevalence of just 1 percent and a substantial 50 percent excise tax on vaping products. The Vaping Reduction Index analyzed 55 countries based on regulatory stringency, tax measures, and public interest in quitting, finding Australia to be the most effective. The index highlights the importance of prioritizing public health given growing evidence of the toxic substances in e-cigarettes, which the World Health Organisation links to cancer and heart disorders. Steven Spicer of Compare the Market praised Portugal’s proactive approach, stating that investing in bans and education will secure a healthier future.
