Daegu’s Jung-gu District will expand regulations to include fines for vaping liquid e-cigarettes containing synthetic nicotine in designated nonsmoking areas. This decision follows amendments to the Tobacco Business Act, classifying these products as “tobacco” effective April 24, 2026. Users could face fines up to 100,000 won. The district will conduct an outreach period in February and March to inform the public about the changes, aiming to address a previous regulatory gap regarding these products. Officials state the amendment allows for systematic management of previously unregulated e-cigarettes.
