PDEA-7 Intensifies Efforts to Combat Vapes Containing Marijuana
Summary
The Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA)-7 has reiterated that marijuana, or cannabis, is still illegal in the Philippines, with violations punishable under Article 2 of Republic Act 9165. This statement comes after numerous seizures of vapes containing marijuana oil or Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC). According to PDEA-7 Acting Assistant Regional Director Thessa Tiuzen, these vapes are primarily imported products smuggled into Cebu. To strengthen security and prevent the entry of illegal products, PDEA-7 is collaborating with couriers and civil society organizations, conducting public orientations and trainings on narcotics detection. They are also seeking cooperation from barangays, schools, and families to prevent law violations and educate youth about the risks of marijuana and illegal vape use. Seizures of marijuana oil vapes have occurred in Consolacion, Mandaue City, and Cebu City this year, following validation and laboratory testing. Tiuzen suggests the increase in illegal marijuana oil and vaping products may be linked to youth trends and challenging life experiences. The PDEA-7 recently seized over 77 e-cigarette vape pens and 5 cartridges containing THC in a joint operation in Consolacion.
