Smoking, Vaping Weed Increases Risk Of Asthma Attacks Among Young Adults, Study Finds
Summary
A recent study published in the journal Chest found a strong association between cannabis use – whether smoked or vaped – and an increased risk of asthma attacks among young adults. Researchers tracked nearly 4,500 individuals aged 18-34 and discovered that those who smoked weed had a 64% increased risk, while those who vaped had an 81% higher risk of experiencing an asthma attack. Those who both smoked and vaped showed a 57% increased risk. While some previous research has suggested potential benefits of cannabis for asthma, this study reinforces findings linking it to negative respiratory outcomes. The researchers emphasize the need for further investigation into the long-term effects of marijuana use on respiratory health, particularly as its prevalence and legal status evolve.
