Final proof vaping IS harder to quit than smoking: As new research highlights devastating side-effects, this miracle treatment is helping thousands

Mail Online
New research shows young people struggle to quit vaping due to severe withdrawal symptoms, often worse than quitting cigarettes.

Summary

Doctors warn that young people who take up vaping risk becoming addicted for life due to withdrawal symptoms that can be more severe than those experienced when quitting cigarettes. While e-cigarettes are generally considered safer than tobacco, experts note that young users often consume more nicotine because vaping is easier to do indoors and frequently, leading to stronger addictions. A 2025 US study found that nearly three-quarters of young vapers had tried and failed to quit, with many blaming withdrawal symptoms like headaches, mood swings, and fatigue. Although the NHS recommends gradually reducing nicotine levels, there is growing evidence that the smoking cessation drug varenicline (Champix) may help young vapers quit, with a recent study showing it was effective for around half of participants. One patient, Kate Corfield, successfully quit by using flavoured toothpicks to manage cravings, highlighting that while withdrawal symptoms cannot always be avoided, there are strategies to help users resist the urge.
