Fewer young adults started vaping after US flavour bans
Summary
International researchers analyzed vaping initiation rates among teens, young adults (18-24), and adults (25+) from 2017 to 2023, coinciding with flavor bans implemented in several US states in 2020. The study, published in JAMA Network Open, found that the flavor bans were associated with a decrease in vaping uptake among young adults aged 18-24. However, the bans did not significantly impact vaping initiation rates for teenagers or adults over 25. Researchers suggest the lack of effect on teens may be due to existing age restrictions and access through illicit channels. The research was funded by the NIH and the FDA Center for Tobacco Products.
