MOH Targeting Vape Ban This Year - Dzulkefly
Summary
Malaysia's Ministry of Health (MOH) intends to implement a vape ban this year, beginning with open pod systems, according to Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad. The ministry will fully enforce the Control of Smoking Products for Public Health Act 2024 (Act 852), viewing it as a moral responsibility to safeguard future generations from non-communicable diseases (NCDs) and conditions like "popcorn lung." The initial focus is on banning open pod systems due to their association with synthetic drug use, covering both sales and usage. This matter will be presented to the Cabinet for approval. Additionally, the MOH plans to launch the Rakan KKM initiative in the first quarter of 2024, offering premium healthcare services at government hospitals like Cyberjaya Hospital, to retain medical specialists within the public system through cross-subsidies.
