The UK government is considering extending smoke-free laws to include vaping in enclosed public places, such as pubs, through the Tobacco and Vapes Bill. This bill, aimed at creating a “smokefree generation” by preventing sales to those born after 2009, also includes flavour and marketing bans, and a retail licensing system. A ban on disposable vapes already came into effect in June 2024. The Department of Health and Social Care plans to consult on making most indoor settings vape-free, building on the voluntary restrictions already in place at many pubs. The government will assess the economic impact of the proposed measures through a full consultation process, guided by public health advice.
