Mentor considers reinstating ban on new vape, head shops
Summary
Mentor City Council is poised to vote on extending a citywide moratorium on new vape shops and head shops through July 1st. This action follows the expiration of a previous temporary ban at the end of 2025 and stems from concerns regarding the sale of hemp-derived THC products, like delta-8. The renewed proposal arrives shortly after Ohio Governor Mike DeWine signed Senate Bill 56 into law, which regulates intoxicating hemp products and restricts their sale to licensed marijuana dispensaries. Several other Ohio cities, including Cleveland and Lakewood, have also implemented similar moratoriums or restrictions. The proposed ban would apply to all zoning districts and cover both new businesses and expansions of existing ones.
