Nearly half of Canadian vape shops non-compliant with health and safety regulations, report says
Summary
A recent Health Canada report revealed significant non-compliance with health and safety regulations among Canadian vape shops. Inspections conducted between April 2024 and March 2025 showed that 43% of the 546 specialty vaping businesses inspected were not in compliance with the Tobacco and Vaping Products Act and the Canada Consumer Product Safety Act. Common violations included the promotion of prohibited flavors, misleading packaging, and exceeding the legal nicotine concentration limit of 20 mg/ml. This represents an increase from 38% non-compliance in the previous year. In contrast, gas stations and convenience stores showed a much higher compliance rate, with less than 1% of the 2,136 stores inspected found to be non-compliant. Inspections of manufacturers also revealed a 45% non-compliance rate regarding key regulations, with issues related to nicotine concentration and child-resistant containers. Health Canada seized a total of 286,764 non-compliant vaping products from manufacturers.
