The case stemmed from a viral TikTok video showing him vaping on an MRT train. HSA officers searched his home but found no prohibited items; Tay admitted to disposing of the vape after use, stating he used it as a substitute after quitting cigarettes and purchased it for $22 in Geylang. He bought three vapes between February and March 2025 from a Bangladeshi individual in the same location. Possessing or purchasing vapes in Singapore can result in a fine of up to $2,000.
