Waterford police target illegal sales of alcohol and vape products to minors
Summary
The Waterford Police Department conducted an operation in December, sending undercover minors to over 80 licensed retailers of alcohol and vape products to assess compliance with Michigan’s age restrictions. While most retailers responsibly checked identification and refused sales to underage individuals, one alcohol retailer, Express Tobacco, Beer/Fine Wine, and twelve vape shops were found to have violated state law. The vape shops cited were The Glass House (two violations), Lakeview Party Store, The Smoke Shoppe (two violations), Sunoco, Clintonville Market, Smoke Buddy, Mobil, Vape Land, Walton Liquor Store, Shell, and Crave. The alcohol retailer will be referred to the Liquor Control Commission, and the vape shops were cited under state law. Police Chief Scott Underwood stated that random compliance checks will continue throughout the year to deter illegal sales to minors.
